“YUKA” (Android / iOS) – The Mobile App to Scan Food and Cosmetic Products

The mobile application “Yuka”, available on Android and iOS, allows users to scan barcodes on food and cosmetic products to assess their quality.

When you scan a product, the app displays a score such as “65/100”, based on the ingredients and their health impact. It highlights warnings related to excessive quantities, allergens, or additives, depending on their potential health effects.

Yuka App – Official Website and Overview

The official Yuka app website is available at:

A small subscription fee applies, but the app provides access to a vast global database of food and cosmetic products.

If a product is missing from the database, users can easily add it by scanning the barcode and the list of ingredients. The process is simple and user-friendly.

Each scanned product receives a score (e.g., 65/100) based on ingredients, additives, allergens, and nutritional content. Yuka also provides a “Recommendations” section with healthier alternatives, making it easier to switch to better options.

Despite both pros and cons, this app is a powerful tool for making healthier food choices—by helping users avoid excessive sugar, salt, fat, trans fats, additives, and allergy risks.

When using Yuka for the first time, many people are surprised to find that everyday products they consume may not be as healthy as they thought. The app helps discover healthier alternatives with similar taste and functionality.

Yuka helps raise awareness about our dietary habits, reminding us that:

“What matters most is what we do daily to stay healthy—not the occasional treat.”

An other world is possible as we say sometimes.

Personally, I believe that “product quality” is the most important, and it’s a consumer choice we have.

It’s possible to anyone to send feedback to companies when there is problem with product.

This doesn’t cost anything; Personally I use my Citizen and Consumer voice to express to company my personal feedback If I believe it’s necessary sometimes. It’s very long process but it’s only the way to progress things sometimes.

By the way, did you know that products are legally required to list all ingredients on their packaging? For some products, the origin is very important.

By scanning products, consumers empower themselves to make better decisions.

The last important point is that the Yuka application can also work with takeaway meals in some shops, which is particularly helpful for those with allergies especially when travelling.
